John's film
Shovelling Snow (1992, super 8, colour, 3.5 minutes, sound on film) A sync-sound Camera Dance. A one-shot film, shot unrehearsed by John's friend, filmmaker Robert Kennedy. John performs for the camera, shovelling snow at a fast, steady pace for three minutes - the length of one roll of film shot at normal speed. He, Robert and the camera follow one another in a linear dance along the long sidewalk and around the corner, on John's street. With its rhythmic scraping sound, this film was intended for use by the band Fifth Column. A companion film to Blade Sharpener (1998), another sync-sound Camera Dance which was shot on the same street in the summer, and similarly intended for use by a band. |
